Proud to Be a Military-Centric Online College
Colorado Technical University values members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and we understand that for many in the military, online colleges offer much-needed flexibility. Our convenient online degree programs give military members the freedom to attend classes when it’s easier for them—a freedom that could mean the difference between having the time to pursue their academic goals or not—but that’s not all we offer. As a military-centric online college, we have policies in place to help you balance your military and academic obligations, among them our military leave of absence policy which can allow you to take time off from your degree program due to military deployment or for travel en route to a new assignment. We also offer military transfer credit options that could result in both time and out-of-pocket savings.* Even better, many of the potential benefits of these military education programs extend to military spouses as well.
* Transfer credit is evaluated on an individual basis. Not all credits are eligible to transfer. See the University Catalog for transfer credit policies.
Flexible Degree Programs
Online classes for military members aren’t a convenient option only for those in active duty status. CTU’s online programs are also a convenient option for veterans because our online college undergraduate degree and graduate degree programs are designed so that you can fit classes around your schedule—flexibility that may be needed to balance veterans’ civilian-life obligations and careers with their academic goals. What’s more, many of CTU’s degree programs can be taken in traditional or hybrid formats as well—a potentially desirable option for those who live near our Colorado Springs campus.
CTU offers degree programs in the following areas of study:
A Good Fit for Military Students & Families
When we say we’re a military-centric online college, you don’t simply have to take our word for it—that’s because Colorado Technical University has been named among the best online colleges for military members in independent third-party reviews. Military Times has included CTU in its “Best for Vets: Colleges 2022” rankings of online and nontraditional schools. Over the past decade, Military Times has conducted an editorially independent, objective study evaluating the many factors that help make colleges and universities a good fit for service members, military veterans, and their families.1
Financial Aid
Flexibility and convenience aren’t the only reasons behind CTU’s reputation as a great online college for military students. We offer a reduced tuition rate and waived fees for active duty service members, Reserves, and National Guard and their spouses. And military students may use their education benefits such as the GI Bill® toward online college classes and on-campus classes alike. Eligible wounded service members, their spouses, non-medical attendant or caregiver and dependents can apply for the CTU Patriot Scholarship as well (50 scholarships awarded annually)!
Before applying for admission to CTU, be sure visit your Base Education Center and speak to an Education Service Officer (ESO) who can help ensure that you have all the documentation you’ll need to apply for your education benefits and any military transfer credit you may be eligible for. You should also connect with one of our Military Education Benefits Specialists (MEBS). Your MEBS will be happy to help answer your questions and, in conjunction with your ESO, help determine which military education benefits military education benefits you might be eligible for and guide you through the financial aid process.2 Military students, like all students, are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA® to determine if they may qualify for any federal financial aid.
Transfer Credit & CTU’s MOS Commitment
At CTU, students may be eligible to transfer their military education into college credit, resulting in savings on out-of-pocket costs and reduced time to graduation.3 Specifically, we offer eligible students the opportunity to receive advanced standing credit for military training and experience if that training and experience aligns with the American Council on Education’s (ACE) guidelines. In accord with the CTU MOS Commitment, we offer a comprehensive review of a student’s Joint Services Transcript (JST), including MOS codes, military schooling, and certifications, for advanced standing credit. Like other kinds of work and life experience credit, military transfer credits must relate directly to a specific course in the student’s chosen degree program.
How to Apply
- Talk with an ESO.
- Fill out the CTU online application.
- Submit required documentation (e.g. high school transcripts, JST, civilian professional certifications, etc.).
